ABOUT Sevai Upma RECIPE

Tangy tomato vermicelli that has been tempered in south indian spices.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Vermicelli /Sevai – 1 cup*
  2. Water - 1 cup
  3. Green Peas boiled – 3 tbsp
  4. Tomato chopped – 1
  5. Ginger chopped - 3/4 tsp
  6. Salt - 1 tsp
  7. Lemon juice – 1.5 tsp
  8. Chili powder – 1/2 tsp
  9. Turmeric powder – 3/4 tsp
  10. For the Tadka :
  11. Refined oil – 1 .5 tbsp
  12. Mustard seeds /rai – 1 tsp
  13. Urad daal/White Lentils - 1 tsp
  14. Cashews/kaju broken – 1 tsp (optional)
  15. Curry leaves – 6
  16. Chopped green chili – 2

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad daal/white lentil, cashews & saute on medium heat.
  2. As soon as the mustard starts crackling, add chopped green chili & vermicelli immediately. Saute on low heat.
  3. Add in the curry leaves, boiled peas and stir fry for a few seconds. Add salt, turmeric, chili powder, chopped tomatoes, ginger and mix.
  4. Pour in a cup of water, cover with a lid and let it simmer for 5-7 minutes. Add the lemon juice & fresh coriander and mix gently.
  5. Switch off the flame and cover the pan and let it rest for a few minutes, so it absorbs the flavors and the extra water (if any).
  6. Open the lid and fluff gently with a fork. Serve hot.
