Ingredients to make Cabbage and Tomato Chutney - a tasty and tangy chutney with a crunch

  • 1-1½ cups cabbage
  • 2-3 tomatoes (medium sized)
  • 1 small ball of tamarind (small lemon sized)
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • salt as per taste
  • For Seasoning -
  • 1 teaspoon split black gram (urad dal)
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1-2 dried red chillies
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)

How to make Cabbage and Tomato Chutney - a tasty and tangy chutney with a crunch

  1. Chop cabbage into medium sized pieces. Heat a small saucepan, add cabbage pieces and fry. Cover and cook for few minutes, until it is half cooked.
  2. Chop tomatoes into medium sized pieces. Heat a saucepan and fry tomatoes alongwith tamarind until all the water is evaporated. Blend cabbage and tomatoes together in a blender along with salt to a course consistency.
  3. For seasoning, heat one teaspoon of oil, add urad dal and red chillies, fry for a few seconds.
  4. Add the mustard seeds and hing. Let the mustatd seeds splutter. Put off the heat. Add the seasoning to the coarse chutney blend and mix well.

My Tip:

Ensure that the cabbage pieces do not become too soft and soggy.
