ABOUT Tomato and Onion chutney RECIPE

Here is a super quick recipe of tomato and onion chutney which can be prepared well within 10 minutes, with minimum basic ingredients. As it is not spicy, kids can savor this chutney too – kid friendly! Moreover, if you have readymade or homemade idli or dosa batter ready in the fridge, then your breakfast will be ready within 20 minutes. This will definitely contribute towards our time saving spree’s, especially in the mornings!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 tomato , medium sized (chopped)
  2. 1 onion , medium sized (chopped)
  3. For Seasoning:
  4. 1 teaspoon black gram split (urad dal)
  5. 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  6. A pinch of asafetida (hing)
  7. A sprig curry leaves (karvepatta)
  8. 1 - 2 red chillies
  9. salt as per taste

Instructions

  1. Add chopped tomatoes, onion and salt, into a blender and blend well. Heat this mixture for 3-5 minutes. Mix in between. Do not add water.
  2. For the seasoning, heat oil, add urad dal and fry for a minute, add red chillies and mustard seeds. Saute for some time, until the mustard seeds splutter.
  3. Add hing and curry leaves. Saute and turn off the heat. Add the seasoning to the tomato and onion mix.
  4. Stir and savor this tangy chutney with dosas or idlis!
