ABOUT Pancharatna Egg Dal RECIPE

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Mix of 5 dals (Green Moong, Yellow Moong, Rajma, Toor Dal, Chana Dal) 1-1/2 cups
  2. Oil 1 tbsp
  3. Ghee 1tbsp
  4. Eggs 3
  5. Onions 2 (chopped)
  6. Tomato 1 (chopped)
  7. Capsicum 1 large (chopped)
  8. Ginger-garlic paste 1-1/2 tbsp
  9. Green chilly 2
  10. Whole red chilly 1
  11. Milk 1/2 cup
  12. Haldi powder 1 tsp
  13. Red chilly powder 1tsp
  14. Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Kasuri methi or dhaniya for garnish

Instructions

  1. Boil the mixed dal with adequate water and 1 pinch salt up to 1 whistle of pressure cooker. It is advisable to soak rajma and green moong overnight or 6-7 hours.
  2. In the meanwhile, heat oil in a kadhai and add broken whole red chilly, ginger-garlic paste and saute for some time.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook till translucent.
  4. Add in the chopped tomato, slit green chilli and cover the kadhai. Cook till the masala is mushy.
  5. Put in the haldi powder and red chilly powder.
  6. Beat the eggs and add in the mixture while stirring continuously. Let the eggs cook.
  7. To this, add the boiled dal, 1 cup water and garam masala.
  8. Cook the dal to desired consistency while checking the seasoning.
  9. Add the milk and cook for 2 more minutes.
  10. Garnish with kasuri methi, dhaniya and ghee. Serve piping hot with steamed rice or rotis!
