Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Fresh red chilli 1/2 kg
  2. Yellow mustard seeds 50 grams
  3. Mustard oil 3 tbsp
  4. White vinegar 1 cup
  5. Hing powder 1 tbsp
  6. Onion seeds (kalaunji) 2 tsp
  7. Salt 1.5 tsp
  8. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  9. Lemon juice 3 tsp
  10. Mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Soak the mustard seeds in the vinegar for atleast 6-7 hours. Strain and the make a paste in the grinder.
  2. Wash the chillies and pat them dry. Cut the chillies into thin rounds.
  3. If the chillies happen to be very spicy, then the seeds can be discarded.
  4. In a heavy bottomed pan, heat some mustard oil.
  5. Then add the asfoetida, onion seeds [kalaunji] and let them splutter, lower the flame.
  6. Add the chopped chillies into the oil.
  7. Cook for 5 minutes on medium high heat.
  8. Now add the mustard seeds + vinegar paste to the cooking chillies.
  9. Then add the salt, turmeric powder and give it a good stir.Cook for another 5 minutes.
  10. Switch off the gas and let the chilies get cooled completely. Add the lemon juice to it. Store this in an air tight container.
