Quick steamed pea cakes

Ingredients to make Quick steamed pea cakes

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup peas
  • 5 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 2-4 green chillies
  • 1 cup gram flour
  • salt ,to taste
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • For tarka:-
  • 4tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 10 fresh curry leaves

How to make Quick steamed pea cakes

  1. Oil two 15cm steel plates or baking tin.
  2. Place water into base of a double steamer. Cover and bring to a boil.
  3. Blend the peas,lemon juice,oil,ginger and chillies to a smooth paste.
  4. Mix with gram flour and salt.
  5. Add baking powder and baking soda.
  6. Divide this between the oiled tins.
  7. Place them in the Steamer,cover and steam on high flame for 10 minutes , or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from steamer and leave to cool for 10 minutes.
  9. Now turn the pea cake out on to a plate.
  10. Heat oil for tarka in a small pan and add mustard seeds.
  11. Add sesame seeds and curry leaves .
  12. Stir for 5 seconds then spoon evenly over the cakes.
  13. Cut the cakes into diamonds or in any shape.
  14. Serve with chutney.
