A famous Bengali delicacy to be savored with some steamed hot rice.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Hilsa fish pieces
  2. Mustard powder 3 tablespoon
  3. Warm water 1/4 cup
  4. A pinch of sugar
  5. Salt per taste
  6. Turmeric powder 1 teaspoon+1/4 teaspoon
  7. Mustard oil
  8. Nigella seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  9. Green chilly slitted 4-5

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish with salt and turmeric powder, keep aside for half an hour.
  2. Soak the mustard powder in warm water with a pinch of salt and sugar for half an hour.
  3. In mustard oil lightly fry the fish from both sides.
  4. To mustard oil add nigella seeds and green chillies.
  5. Once the aroma comes add the mustard paste.
  6. Cook the mustard till the raw smell goes.
  7. Add little water, salt, turmeric powder and add the fish.
  8. Turn off the flame when the fish is cooked.
  9. Keep it covered for 5 minutes and serve with steamed rice.
