Raw banana is such a versatile vegetable loved by many .This appetiser with raw banana as the star can always be an instant crowd pleaser! When i had so many raw bananas at home and just did not know how to use them up ,tried this twist and it was a huge success!

Raw Banana and Spinach Cutlet

Ingredients to make Raw Banana and Spinach Cutlet

  • 1 Raw banana
  • 1 onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 Green chili (finely chopped)
  • 1tbsp of ginger –garlic paste
  • spinach leaves a bunch (chopped)
  • Few curry leaves (finely chopped)
  • Half a cup coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • A pinch of turmeric powder
  • A pinch of Red chili powder
  • salt to taste
  • oil (for deep frying)
  • 1 tsp oil (for sauteing)
  • 3 tbsp Corn flour mixed with ĵ cup of water
  •  cup of breadcrumbs

How to make Raw Banana and Spinach Cutlet

  1. Wash, peel and cut the raw banana into cubes. Cook them in water, pinch of turmeric and salt, until soft (takes 8 to 10 minutes) or pressure cook upto one whistle.
  2. Heat a tsp of oil in a pan and fry the onions, green chilies, ginger- garlic paste till translucent.Add in the chopped spinach and fry for few seconds and switch off.
  3. Now take the cooked banana cubes and mash well, add the sauteed mixture along with turmeric, chili powder, chopped curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt.
  4. Mix well until everything blends together and make a stiff dough. Roll them into equal size balls and flatten like little croquettes.Now dip them in corn flour batter and roll in bread crumbs and deep fry
  5. Depending on personal preference you can either shallow or deep fry. Serve hot with choice of sauce.
