ABOUT Muri ghonto RECIPE

A typical Bengali dish cooked with fish head and beaten rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 whole fish head of rohu/Katla fish cut into 2 pieces each.
  2. 2 potatoes, cut into 4 pieces each.
  3. 1/2 onion

  5. 3 garlic pods
  6. 1/4tsp Turmeric powder
  7. 1.5tsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  8. 1/2tsp cumin powder
  9. 1/2tsp coriander powder
  10. 1/2tsp pepper corns
  11. 1/4tsp saunf
  12. 1/3tsp salt
  13. 1/4tsp nigella seeds
  14. 1/2tsp garma masala powder
  15. 1/3 cup beaten rice
  16. 1/2 cup Mustard oil
  17. 2 Cups Water

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish heads with 1tsp salt and 1/2tsp turmeric. Keep aside for 10-15mins.
  2. Heat a kadai, add oil and fry the fish head pieces and keep aside.
  3. In the same kadai, add 1/4tsp nigella seeds.
  4. Add potatoes pieces and fry and cook for 4-5mins or until half cooked.
  5. Add the beaten rice and fry for 2mins.
  6. Meanwhile grind the ingredients mentioned from onion to salt with 2-3tbs water to a smooth paste.
  7. Add the ground paste and fry until raw masala smell goes.
  8. Add water and bring to a rolling boil.
  9. Add the fish head pieces and cook in low flame for 5-7mins.
  10. End with sprinkling garam masala powder.
