ABOUT Veg Rice Balls RECIPE

Crisp and delicious rice balls, a starter that deserves to be on your menu! This recipe is brought to you in association with the Murugappa Group for the 'Know your Staples' campaign.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 cup cooked rice
  2. 1 Medium boiled potato
  3. 1/2 small carrot, grated
  4. 1 Medium Onion, Finely Chopped
  5. 1 Green Chilli, chopped
  6. 1 tbsp fresh coriander leaves
  7. 1/4 tsp Red Chilli Flakes
  8. 1/2 tsp Cumin powder
  9. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  10. 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  11. 3 tbsp besan
  12. For coating:
  13. 1/2 cup flour/maida
  14. salt as per taste
  15. 1/2 tsp black pepper powder
  16. breadcrumbs, as needed
  17. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Mix the rice, potato, carrot, besan and all the masalas in a bowl.
  2. Mix nicely, check for seasoning and adjust at this stage.
  3. Make 10-12 round balls from the batter and keep aside.
  4. Make a slurry using maida and water. Add salt and black pepper to it.
  5. Dip a ball into the slurry and coat it with breadcrumbs. Repeat till all the balls are evenly coated.
  6. Heat oil in a deep kadhai and fry the prepared balls on medium heat until golden and crisp.
  7. Place the fried balls on absorbent paper.
  8. Serve with ketchup or a dip of your choice.
