Indian mackerel fish marinated with spices and cooked in banana leaf which makes it juicy and tasty as a side dish or starter.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Indian mackerel fish - 5 (cleaned)
  2. Lemon juice - 4 tbsp
  3. banana leaf - 5
  4. Red chilli powder - 3 tbsp
  5. Turmeric - 1 tsp
  6. Salt - as per taste
  7. Tamrind extract - 2 tbsp
  8. Garam masala - 1 tbsp
  9. Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  10. jira powder - 1 tsp
  11. amchur(dry mango) powder - 1tsp
  12. Oil - 5 tbsp

Instructions

  1. clean the fish from head and make tail. chop it off and make spikes in between.
  2. take a bowl, add red chilli powder,turmeric,salt,tamrind extract,garam masala,coriander powder,jira powder,amchur powder and mix well. make a thick paste and keep aside.
  3. now apply the some lemon juice on the fish and keep aside for 5 minutes
  4. now apply the the masala paste nicely to fish and marinate it for 10 minutes.
  5. take a banana leaf, wash it nicely and pat dry with a cloth. Apply some oil on it and keep the fish and wrap the leaf nicley. You can tie a thread so that it wont open up.
  6. Now take a steamer (idi or momo) and steam for 15 mins. Keep it in steamer till it cools and then serve it with rice and gravy.
