Soybean Dry Masala

Ingredients to make Soybean Dry Masala

  • 3/4 cup soybean
  • 7 garlic cloves, sliced
  • 7 shallots, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon coconut slices
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated coconut
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 2 dry red chillies
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 3 tablespoons coconut oil

How to make Soybean Dry Masala

  1. Soak soybeans overnight. Pressure cook them adding enough water and salt till done. Strain excess water and set the bean aside.
  2. Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds. When they crackle add halved dry red chillies and curry leaves. Let the dry chillies brown a bit.
  3. Now add the coconut slices. Saute until brown and add the sliced garlic and shallots. Saute until garlic turns brown and shallots are pink.
  4. Bring down the flame to low. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and garam masala powder. Saute until the raw smell of masala goes off.
  5. Add in the grated coconut and saute for 1 minute. Now add the soybean and mix well. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  6. Drizzle 1 tablespoon coconut oil and add the remaining curry leaves. Sprinkle the pepper powder and mix everything well. Cook for 2 minutes. Switch off the flame.
  7. Serve warm with rice.
