ABOUT Sura Puttu/ Shark Puttu RECIPE

Shark or sura puttu is a special sea food from chennai. It is usually given to lactating mothers to enhance breast milk secretion. Others can eat too.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Shark 1/4 kg - cut into cubes
  2. Shallots 1/4 kg peeled and chopped finely
  3. Garlic 10 pods
  4. Green chillies 4
  5. Curry leaves few
  6. Coriander leaves for garnishing
  7. Grated coconut 3 tablespoons for garnishing
  8. Ground nut oil 2 teaspoons
  9. Mustard seeds, urad dal 1/2 teaspoon each for tempering
  10. Turmeric 1/2 teaspoon
  11. Salt accordingly

Instructions

  1. Wash and clean the shark pieces. Marinate them with salt and turmeric and steam cook them for 10 minutes until it is soft.
  2. Let it cool. Peel the skin and remove the fish bones.
  3. Mash the cooked fish into fine shredded pieces
  4. In a kadai heat oil and add mustard seeds and urad dal
  5. Once they splutter add curry leaves and finely chopped shallots and stir them well
  6. Then add finely chopped green chillies and garlic
  7. Then add required salt and turmeric.
  8. Once the oil oozes out add the shredded shark and stir well
  9. Cook it covered over low flame for 5 minutes
  10. Garnish with grated coconut and finely chopped coriander leaves and serve hot
  11. It can be eaten as such like a snack or as an accompaniment with sambar rice or rasam rice
