ABOUT Upma with pepper RECIPE

A variation of the regular upma made often in South Indian homes

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Roasted rava 1 cup
  2. Peppercorns. 12 - 15
  3. Jeera. 1/2 tsp
  4. Curry leaves. 8 - 10
  5. Grated Coconut 1/4 cup
  6. Oil. 4 - 5 tbsps
  7. Ghee. 1 tsp
  8. Salt. To taste
  9. Juice of 1/2 lime
  10. Water. 2 cups
  11. Chana dal. 1 tsp
  12. Udad dal. 1 tsp
  13. Chopped coriander for garnish

Instructions

  1. Coarsely pound the peppercorns and jeera in a pestle and keep aside
  2. Keep the water for boiling in a vessel
  3. In a kadhai / wok, heat the oil.
  4. Add the pounded peppercorns and jeera followed by the city leaves and the dals.
  5. Add the rava and salt and mix well.
  6. Add the boiling water and turn down the heat to minimum
  7. Stir well till the water is nearly all absorbed and take off the heat.
  8. Add the ghee and grated coconut and mix well
  9. Garnish with chopped coriander and serve hot.
