ABOUT Tomato and Onion Chutney.. RECIPE

A tangy peppy chutney that goes well with idli and dosas. Also can be a very good dip for pakoras, potato chips, nachos and vadas.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Onions large 2
  2. Tomatoes medium 4
  3. Salt to taste
  4. Oil a tbsp
  5. Garlic cloves 3-4
  6. Dry red chilli 2 or chilli flakes 1 tbsp
  7. Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  8. Tamarind pulp 1 tsp (optional)
  9. FOR THE TEMPERING:::
  10. Dry red chillies 3 to 4
  11. Mustard seeds 1 tbsp
  12. Curry leaves a few
  13. oil 2 tbsp

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil and add the cumin and the garlic. Saute for a while.
  2. Now add the chopped onion and saute for 2 to 3 mins.
  3. Add the chilli flakes and the chopped tomatoes. Let them cook until tender.
  4. Allow it to cool and blend using a little water. If it requires, only then use it, otherwise no need at all.
  5. Temper the chutney and serve it accordingly. Tempering gives it a nice flavour and aroma.
