ABOUT Veg Whole Wheat Momos RECIPE

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For outer cover:
  2. 1 cup wheat flour (atta)
  3. 1/4 cup water + 2 tbsp
  4. 1/4 tsp salt
  5. for the stuffing:
  6. 1/4 cup finely chopped carrot
  7. 1/4 cup finely chopped cabbage
  8. 1/4 cup finely chopped onion or spring onion
  9. 1/4 cup finely chopped capsicum
  10. 1 tbsp chopped ginger
  11. 1/4 tsp red chilli powder
  12. 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  13. 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  14. 1/4 tsp black pepper powder or as per taste
  15. some oil for greasing the vessel
  16. 3 cups water


  1. Outer cover preparation:
  2. Mix atta and salt in a wide bowl and knead a soft dough adding water in parts.
  3. Cover the dough and keep aside for 30 minutes.
  4. Filling:
  5. Take all the chopped veggies in a large bowl along with chopped ginger.
  6. Next, add all the spices and season nicely with salt and pepper. Mix the filling well.
  7. Shaping the momos:
  8. Grease the steamer pan with oil and keep aside.
  9. Make small balls from the prepared dough.
  10. Sprinkle some flour on the dough ball and roll into a thin circle of 4-5 inch diameter. The edges should be slightly thinner than the centre.
  11. Apply little water with the help of a small pastry brush on the circumference of the circle.
  12. Place 2 to 3 tablespoons of the vegetable stuffing in the centre.
  13. Lift one side of the edge gently and make neat pleats. Join all the pleats in the centre.
  14. Make all the momos in similar fashion.
  15. Place the momos in the greased pan and cover them with a moist cloth before preparing the steamer.
  16. Steaming the momos:
  17. Heat water in the steamer. Let the water boil and then place the greased pan with the momos in it.
  18. Steam the momos for 10-12 minutes. Do not over steam then as they will become hard and dry.
  19. Serve fresh steamed wheat momos with a spicy chutney.
