ABOUT Sorse Tel Koi/Climbing Perch Fish in Mustard RECIPE

Koi or the Climbing Perch fish belongs to the carp family. It is usually found in the eastern states of India, and its natural habitat is ponds, ditches and swamps. When you are cutting and prepping the fish it should be alive, in older times this was possible, however today you cannot get the same.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 4 Koi maach+1/2 tsp turmeric powder+Salt (To marinate)
  2. cup mustard seeds
  3. 2 green chilies
  4. 1 potato cut into wedges
  5. 1 tsp nigella seeds
  6. 1 tomato sliced
  7. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1 tsp salt
  9. cup mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Wash the fish pieces and apply salt and turmeric on them. Keep aside and marinate for 15 minutes. Heat the mustard oil and shallow fry them on both sides.
  2. Make a smooth paste of the mustard seeds along with green chillies and a pinch of salt.
  3. Take a pan/kadai, heat oil and then add the nigella seeds in it. Add the potato wedges and fry for some time. Next add the sliced tomato, cover and cook till the tomato becomes soft.
  4. Then add the mustard paste, salt and turmeric powder. Fry till the oil starts leaving the sides. Add a cup of water and bring to a boil. Then put in the fish, cover and simmer till its done.
  5. Once the fish is done, switch off the heat and add 1 tbsp of raw mustard oil for that special fragrance.
  6. Serve hot alongside rice.
