ABOUT Soya Biryani RECIPE

My family turns vegetarian on Tuesdays which is a major sore for my son who wants to eat chicken every day! I have to make something different to entice him and this soya biryani was tasty enough to make him happy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cups rice boiled
  2. 3 cups soya granules
  3. 1 bay leaf
  4. 3 green cardamoms
  5. 2 brown cardamoms
  6. 2 dry red chillies
  7. 1 cinnamon
  8. 1 tbsp peppercorns
  9. 2 onions chopped
  10. 2 ginger minced
  11. 6 garlic minced
  12. 2 green chilies chopped
  13. 5 tbsp tomato puree
  14. 1 tbsp coriander powder
  15. 1 tbsp garam masala
  16. 1 tsp cumin powder
  17. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  18. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the soya granules in hot water for half an hour.
  2. Heat some ghee. Add in the dry red chilies, bay leaf, green cardamoms, brown cardamoms and cinnamon. Stir then put in the ginger, garlic and green chilies. After a minute add in the chopped onions. Sauté and cook for 2 minutes.
  3. Next put in the tomato puree and cook till the oil separates. Add the coriander powder, garam masala powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder and salt. Fry till the masalas are well cooked.
  4. Drain the water and add in the soya granules. Sauté on a high flame for few minutes. Pour in some water, cover and cook for 10 minutes. The soya mix should be dry after this time.
  5. Add the boiled rice and mix it well together. Cover and cook for two more minutes so that the rice and soya is well mixed.
  6. Your Soya Biryani is ready! Serve it hot for best taste.
