ABOUT Dahi and Pepper Chicken RECIPE

This was my husband's favourite dish. I don't remember how I began making this, mostly based on what I could find in the kitchen. I used to make it at least once a week with loads of pepper and gravy.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 500 gms boneless chicken cubed
  2. 250 gms dahi mixed with 250 ml water or 500 gms buttermilk
  3. 4 to 5 tsp black pepper powder
  4. 1/2 tsp haldi
  5. Red chilli powder to taste
  6. 1/4 tsp hing / asafoetida
  7. 1 tsp coriander powder
  8. 1 tsp roasted cumin powder
  9. Black salt to taste
  10. Water depending on how much gravy you want

Instructions

  1. In a cooking pot combine all the masalas with the dahi and whisk so that there are no lumps left.
  2. Add the chicken and leave for about 4 hours to marinate.
  3. Stir well, add water and put the gas on high.
  4. Once it starts boiling, lower the heat to a simmer and let cook until the chicken is tender.
  5. Enjoy with rotis, bread/ rice or even appams or dosa
