Ragi Roti

Ingredients to make Ragi Roti

  • 3 cups Ragi flour
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • oil

How to make Ragi Roti

  1. Boil water in a vessel along with salt and when water starts boiling, reduce the heat and add the flour.
  2. Mix well.
  3. When water has evaporated, switch off the gas and let the dough cool.
  4. When it is slightly warm sprinkle some water and knead the dough.
  5. Then make small balls, flatten it and set aside.
  6. Then take a thick plastic sheet and place it over the surface where you are going to roll the dough.
  7. This is used to prevent the dough from sticking to the surface.
  8. Then apply a drop of oil on your palms and take one piece.
  9. Apply a drop of oil on either sides and roll it into a round shape of about 1/8” thickness.
  10. Then take a circular lid and place over it such that it cuts the roti into a round shape.
  11. Set aside the extra bits and transfer the roti to a pan and cook for about 1 or 2 minutes.
  12. Turn over, add 1 tsp of oil, cook for some time and again turn to the other side.
  13. Cook till the roti slightly puffs up or gets dark brown colour dots on both sides.
  14. In this way cook all the other rotis.
  15. This recipe makes about 12 rotis.
  16. Serve hot with groundnut chutney.
