ABOUT Chana dal RECIPE

Chana dal is the best dal for diabetics because of its low glycemic index, simply means it can never cause your sugar levels to spike up!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 100g chana dal or chickpea lentils or Bengal gram
  2. 2 green chillies finely chopped
  3. 2 tomatoes
  4. 1 onion finely chopped
  5. 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  6. 1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder
  7. 1/4 teaspoon garam masala
  8. 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  9. 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  10. 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida(heeng)
  11. 1 tablespoons olive oil
  12. 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  13. 1 tablespoon coriander leaves finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Soak chana dal in water for 2 hours.Wash it and take it out from the water.Now tranfer the chana dal in a pressure cooker.Add 1/2 tablespoon of salt and 1 cup of water.
  2. Heat pressure cooker on medium flame and after one whistle,lower the flame and cook for 7-8 minutes and then switch off the burner(total of 5-6 whistles).
  3. Meanwhile heat olive oil in a deep pan and add cumin seeds and onions.Saute until golden brown.
  4. Grind tomatoes and green chillies to make a thick paste.Add ginger- garlic paste in the pan and then add tomato paste.
  5. Stir for 2-4 minutes.Now add salt,turmeric powder,red chilly powder,coriander powder,garam masala and hing.Mix well.
  6. Now remove the lid of the cooker and transfer chana dal to the pan.Cook for 4-5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with some coriander leaves and serve with chappatis or rice.
