ABOUT Junnu Gaddi Sweet RECIPE

Junnu is made with junnu gaddi in Andhra for special functions in Andhra Pradesh. Many call it as China grass, but I suggest it be called as Japan grass, because it was first discovered in Japan and was called as Kanten. It is also called as Agar-agar. Agar is a jelly like substance obtained from algae and looks like a transparent grass.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Milk- 1 litre
  2. Sugar-1 cup
  3. Pepper powder- 1 tsp
  4. Elachi powder 2 tsp
  5. Almond powder ( to thicken milk)
  6. Chopped Almonds
  7. Junnu gaddi- 100 gms
  8. Coloured flavours - 3 drops

Instructions

  1. Boil milk in a thick bottomed vessel
  2. In a separate pan add little water and boil junnu gaddi till it becomes a transparent liquid
  3. To the boiled milk, add sugar, almond powder, pepper powder, elachi powder and stir well
  4. Add junnu gaddi liquid to the milk and let it cook for 10 minutes.
  5. Add chopped almonds and cook well.
  6. Switch off the stove
  7. Take your favourite shaped cake moulds and add 2 drops of strawberry or pista or your choice syrups.
  8. Now pour junnu gaddi mixture into it and let them set for one hour.
  9. Keep it in the refrigerator till we are ready to serve
