Ingredients to make Gulgule

  • wheat flour 1 cup
  • water 1/2 cup
  • jaggery 3 tablespoons (can adjust according to your taste)
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds (Sauf ) crushed
  • salt 1 pinch
  • baking soda 1 pinch
  • clarified butter 3 teaspoons
  • clarified butter 3-4 teaspoons for appe maker

How to make Gulgule

  1. Dissolve jaggery in water
  2. In another bowl add wheat flour, ghee ,salt ,baking soda and mix well
  3. Add jaggery solution to it and form a thick batter
  4. Batter should be of dropping consistency . add water if required
  5. Preheat appe maker
  6. Pour 2-3 drops ghee in each mould
  7. Fill each mould with batter
  8. Simmer for 3 minutes on low flame
  9. When gulgule gets golden in brown colour from beneath flip the side
  10. Add few drops of ghee in each mould and continue cooking for 3 minutes.
  11. Now take out gulgule and serve hot
