ABOUT Chenar Pulao / Chenar Jarda RECIPE

Another very famous , colourful dessert from my hometown , Tripura . This decadent dessert is made up of homemade paneer or cottage cheese .It is similar to Sitabhog, but I have made this colourful especially for celebrating Holi.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Paneer 150 gms (made from 1 litre low fat milk )
  2. Orange colour a drop
  3. Corn flour 1/2 tbsp
  4. Milk powder 1/2 tbsp
  5. Flour 1/2 tbsp
  6. Sugar 1 tsp
  7. Ghee 1 tsp
  8. For Sugar Syrup :
  9. sugar 1 cup
  10. Water 1 1/2 cups
  11. Green cardamom 2
  12. Cinnamon stick 1/2 inch
  13. Lemon juice 1 tsp
  14. Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Boil water and sugar
  2. Simmer for 5 mins
  3. Add cardamom and cinnamon
  4. Also add lemon juice
  5. Cover the syrup
  6. Now mix chena , corn flour , flour and milk powder
  7. Also add sugar
  8. Knead a dough
  9. Make three parts
  10. Add 1 drop orange colour in 1 part
  11. Make small 6-7 balls from one part.
  12. Heat oil
  13. Fry the small balls until red
  14. Add them to the hot sugar syrup
  15. Cover for 7- 8 mins
  16. Now using grater grate orange paneer dough and fry them in low heat , don't make them crispy
  17. Fry in batches
  18. Next grate the white paneer dough and fry them
  19. Add them together to the hot sugar syrup for 7-8 mins
  20. Strain them
  21. Spread in a plate
  22. Garnish with star anise
  23. Let them come to the room temperature and serve
  24. Enjoy this colourful dessert on holi
