About Sev Recipe

In Maharashtra, this Sev is eaten along with Chivda.


Ingredients to make Sev

  • 2 cups - gram flour (Besan)
  • 1/3 cup - water
  • 1/3 cup - oil
  • 1 tsp - Carom Seeds Powder (Ajwain Powder)
  • 1/3 tsp - asafoetida (Hing)
  • 1/3 tsp - turmeric Powder
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep-frying

How to make Sev

  1. Combine water, oil, carom seeds powder, asafoetida, turmeric powder and salt and beat well. Add gram flour to the mixture stirring continuously.
  2. Ensure that the batter is not too thick. Grease your chakli mould and Fill the machine with batter.
  3. Heat oil in a frying pan on medium. Press the chakali mould circular motion so that thin strands come out from the sieving plate.
  4. If the flame is too hot, the colour of Sev will turn brown. Fry the Sev for a minute in medium hot oil.
  5. Drain it on a tissue paper to remove excess oil. Store it in an air-tight container.

My Tip:

You may sprinkle Chaat Masala or any other seasoning like Garlic-Pepper powder, Tomato powder etc. to make flavored Sev.
