ABOUT Basbousa RECIPE

An arabic sweet made with semolina to tickle your taste buds!

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. 2 cups of Semolina
  2. 1/2 cup of Butter melted
  3. 1 tsp Baking powder
  4. tsp Baking soda
  5. 1/2 cup of Sugar
  6. 1 Egg
  7. 1 cup of Milk
  8. for syrup:
  9. 1 cup of Sugar
  10. 1 cup of Water
  11. 1 tsp Rose water
  12. 1/2 tsp Lime juice

Instructions

  1. Sift semolina, baking powder and baking soda in a bowl.
  2. In a separate bowl add sugar, milk, egg, butter and mix well with a spoon.
  3. Add semolina mixture to the milk mixture and mix well.
  4. Grease a pan and pour the semolina mixture to it.
  5. Preheat the oven at 180°C for 15 minutes
  6. Bake the basbousa at 180°C for 30 to 35 minutes till the top is lightly browned.
  7. For the syrup: Mix sugar in water and boil till the sugar is totally dissolved and becomes a syrup.
  8. Add rose water and lime juice into the syrup.
  9. While the basbousa is hot pour the syrup on top of it.
  10. After 30 minutes cut the Basbousa into square or diamond shape.
