ABOUT Raw Banana Kofta Curry RECIPE

Koftas are generally made with meat or vegetables . Variety of vegetables are mixed to make make vegetable koftas, malai koftas are made with potato and cheese and served on a bed of spicy curry. In this recipe, I have used potato and raw banana to make these koftas and served on a no onion and garlic gravy and the outcome was amazing.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 nos of raw banana or plantains
  2. 3 nos of medium size boiled potato
  3. 4 nos of medium size tomatoes
  4. 1 inch ginger finely chopped or crushed
  5. 2 Green chillies finely chopped
  6. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  7. 1 tsp Red Chilli Kashmiri Powder
  8. 1 tsp sugar
  9. 2 tbsps golden raisins
  10. 1/4 cup Bengal gram flour or Besan for dusting
  11. Salt to taste
  12. Water as needed
  13. For the Dry Masala:
  14. 1 tbsp Coriander Seeds
  15. 1 tsp cumin seeds
  16. 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  17. 1 inch cinamon stick
  18. 4 cloves
  19. 3 green cardamoms
  20. For Garnishing:
  21. 1 tsp fresh cream
  22. Few coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Pressure Cook the potatoes and green raw bananas. Cool and peel them.
  2. Boil the tomatoes and once done, peel the skin and grind to a smooth paste.
  3. Dry roast the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, green cardamom, cinnamon stick and cloves. Once cool, grind to a fine powder.
  4. In a bowl, mash the green bananas and potatoes very finely. Add salt, green chilies, 1 tbsp ground masala, few golden raisins to give the koftas some balance of flavor and mix it nicely.
  5. Smear your hands with oil and make lemon size balls out of it. Roll them on the gram flour, dust off excess flour and keep aside. Repeat the process with other koftas.
  6. Now heat oil in a pan and shallow fry these koftas till they become brown from all sides. Prick with a toothpick 4 to 5 places in the koftas and keep aside.
  7. In the same pan add some oil, once hot, add the chopped green chillies and the crushed ginger and saute it for a minute, add the tomato puree, salt, turmeric powder and red chili powder .
  8. and saute till oil comes out of the sides of the masala. Now add the ground masala along with a little water , cook for one more minute. Check the seasoning, add sugar and now add 1 cup water .
  9. Cover and simmer for 10 minutes or till you find the desired consistency of your gravy.
  10. Add the koftas just before serving and mix them well.
  11. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and fresh cream.Serve hot with Rice, Roti or Paratha.
