ABOUT Instant suji oats dhokla RECIPE

This is a quick healthy snack which can be made in minutes for unexpected guests. And it is a regular breakfast item in my house.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup - Rava/suji/semolina
  2. Curd - 3/4 cup
  3. Whole red chili - 1 to 2
  4. Quick rolled oats (Quaker) - 2 to 3 tbsp
  5. Eno or cooking soda - 1 tbsp
  6. Cumin or jeera powder - 1 tsp
  7. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  8. Rai or mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  9. Sugar - 1/4 tsp
  10. Sesame or white til - 1/4 tsp
  11. Jeera/Cumin Seeds - 1/4 tsp
  12. Curry leaves (optional)
  13. Asafoetida or hing - a pinch
  14. Oil for tempering
  15. Water as required
  16. Fresh coriander chopped
  17. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Add suji, oats, salt, sugar in a bowl, mix well. Now add the curd and water and make a thick but slightly flowing batter. Add the eno or cooking soda and mix well.
  2. Take a steamer like the one you use for idli, grease a idli or dhokla plate and put in the batter.
  3. Now fill the idli steamer with enough water and let the dhokla steam for 15 mins.
  4. Once done, remove it from the steamer and sprinkle the cumin powder and red chili throughout the top of the dhokla.
  5. Take a tadka spoon, take 1 tbsp oil and once heated well, add the jeera, mustard seeds, hing, whole red chili and let it splutter, add curry leaves if you wish.
  6. Now temper the dhokla with this and garnish with chopped coriander.
  7. Cut square pieces and serve with mint coriander chutney or ketchup.
