ABOUT Masala Puri RECIPE

One of the favourite chat dishes of any Bangalorean would be 'Masala Puri'. Masala Puri - Crushed crisp puris (home made), served with piping hot green peas curry, onion, tomato, coriander leaves and spice garnishing.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. For the curry
  2. Dried green peas - 250 grams (soaked overnight)
  3. Onion - 1 nos
  4. Tomato - 2 nos
  5. Curry leaves - 2 sprigs
  6. Pepper powder - 1 to 1.5 tsp
  7. Ginger garlic paste - 1/2 tsp
  8. Chilly powder - 1/2 tsp
  9. Mustard seeds - 1/4th tsp
  10. Turmeric powder - 1/4th tsp
  11. Salt to taste.

Instructions

  1. Add some oil in a cooker, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds crackle add the onion slices and fry till light golden brown.
  2. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for a minute. Add tomato pieces and fry till it gets soft. Add the spices and the green peas. Fry for a minute or two.
  3. Add sufficient water as we need slightly thin gravy. Pressure Cook for 5 to 6 whistle or till peas are cooked soft.
  4. For assembling the Masala puri. In a wide cup crush few puris. Add the gravy
  5. Garnish with fine onion cubes, tomato cubes, some finely cut coriander leaves
  6. Add a pinch of salt, red chilly powder, zeera/ cumin powder and garam masala powder. Finally with some thin sev.
  7. Serve immediately when the gravy is hot and puris are crisp.
