Dahi Vada

Ingredients to make Dahi Vada

  • urad dal 1 cup
  • Green chilli 1, chopped
  • cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Kishmish 10
  • salt to taste
  • red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • hing a pinch
  • curd 3 cups
  • tamarind chutney
  • coriander chutney
  • oil for frying
  • sugar 1/2 tsp
  • coriander leaves, few

How to make Dahi Vada

  1. Soak dal in water for 6 hours.
  2. Grind the dal after removing water.
  3. Add salt, red chilli powder, hing, green chilli, cumin seeds, kishmish to the dal paste and mix well. Beat until the mixture becomes fluffy.
  4. Make vada of this batter by applying a little water in hands while dropping the batter in oil. (First cook on high flame then on low until golden brown).
  5. Add these hot vada in the water immediately.
  6. Whisk the curd with sugar powder. Now add salt and mix well.
  7. Now press the vada gently with your palm to remove excess water and keep in separate bowl.
  8. Now dip these vada into curd.
  9. While serving pour both the chutneys. Sprinkle roasted cumin powder and coriander leaves.

My Tip:

Beat the dal paste as much as you can so that vada becomes soft and spongy.
