ABOUT Mutton Pie RECIPE

Once again I give the credit to my mom, who is a pure vegetarian. To move with the times, she attended a cooking class and mastered the art of baking. She is no more but her recipe will be tried and tested by many passionate people. Cheers to her memory.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Minced meat - 500 gms
  2. 1 medium sized Onion chopped
  3. 1 tsp Ginger grated
  4. 1 tsp Garlic paste
  5. 3 Green chilies chopped finely
  6. 3 tsp Tomato ketchup
  7. 2 & 1/2 tsp Worcester sauce
  8. Coriander leaves 2 tsp chopped
  9. 1/2 cup shelled Peas
  10. 1 Egg
  11. 1/2 kg Potatoes
  12. 1 cup Water
  13. 1 tsp Oil
  14. One handful of Bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Take a non-stick pan and fry inn chopped onions, garlic and ginger in oil till light brown.
  2. Add minced meat, peas and salt. Saute for 2 minutes and add a cup of water. Cook till minced meat is cooked. If there is any remaining liquid, dry it up.
  3. Take off flame and add sauce, ketchup, coriander and beaten egg. Grease a pie dish or loaf pan and evenly sprinkle bread crumbs. Add in the minced meat mixture.
  4. Boil potatoes until soft. Cool and mash. Add few table spoons of oil, if you feel the mixture is hard. Season this with salt and pepper.
  5. Top this mashed potato layer over minced meat mixture. You can make herringbone lines using a fork, if the pie is in a serving dish.
  6. Leave this to bake for 40 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 190°C. Take this onto a platter and serve along boiled vegetables and french fries.
