ABOUT Khatti Arhar dal/Kacchi kairi ki dal- Sambhar style! RECIPE

Arhar/tuvar dal, sambhar style with the tang of raw mangoes.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1/3 cup Arhar dal
  2. 1 cup chopped vegetables (carrot, beans, lauki, cauliflower)
  3. 1 small onion, sliced
  4. 1 small tomato, chopped
  5. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  6. A generous pinch of hing
  7. 2 sprigs curry leaves
  8. 2 tbsp sambar masala
  9. 2 tbsp oil
  10. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  11. 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  12. 1 tbsp coriander powder
  13. 1 small raw mango, peeled and grated
  14. 3 dried red chillies
  15. Pinch of sugar
  16. 1 tbsp broken cashewnuts
  17. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Pick and wash Arhar dal, boil dal in the pressure cooker( for 4-5 whistles) till soft.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, dried red chillies, mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing, cashewnuts and sliced onion, saute well.
  3. Add in sambar masala, coriander powder, turmeric and tomatoes. Cook for a minute.
  4. Next add in the chopped veggies and grated raw mango and saute for another minute.
  5. Add these veggies to the boiled dal, add salt to tast along with a pinch of sugar and cook on medium flame(3-4 whistles), till veggies are soft.
  6. Serve hot with freshly boiled rice and crisp roasted papad.
