ABOUT Ghugni Chaat (White dried peas chaat) RECIPE

Ghugni Chaat is a famous street food of Kolkata, West Bengal. It is made with cooked dried white peas and then garnished with sev, coriander, coconut pieces, lemon juice and chaat masala. It is very tasty and taste good when hot.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 cup dried white peas (boiled)
  2. 1 cup chopped onion
  3. 1 tbsp garlic paste
  4. 1 medium tomato chopped
  5. 1 tbsp ginger paste
  6. 1 tsp coriander powder
  7. 1 tsp cumin powder
  8. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  9. 1 tsp chaat masala
  10. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  11. 6 chopped green chilies
  12. 1 cup chopped coriander leaves
  13. 1 cup chopped coconut pieces
  14. 1 tsp sugar
  15. 1 cup nylon sev
  16. 1 tbsp lemon juice
  17. 1 dried chili
  18. 1 bay leaf
  19. Vegetable oil for sauteing
  20. Salt for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Soak dried peas overnight then boil it until cooked.
  2. Heat oil in a pan add dried red chili and bay leaf. Add garlic paste and saute then 1/2 cup chopped onion and fry . Add salt, sugar and turmeric powder then cook it for 5 minutes.
  3. Add tomato pieces, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder and ginger paste. Fry until oil separates.
  4. Add boiled peas and add 1/2 cup of water. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour cooked peas in serving bowl add lemon juice and garnish with chopped onion, coconut pieces, chopped green chili, nylon sev and coriander leaves. Ghugni chaat is ready to serve.
