A good prawn recipe is all that you need if you are fond of cooking it. Of the many seawater and
freshwater fishes and insects that people all around the world consume, prawns are certainly a
favourite in many. However, there are people who are allergic to prawn, and if you are, then it is best
to stay away from it because it can give you some nasty rashes and even inflame your breathing pipe,
which can suffocate you from within. Well, if you have been cleared of all prawn allergies, then are
some very good prawn dishes that you ought to try out!
Getting the basics of cooking cleared
Well, if you are really fond of prawn dishes, and you are looking for some how to prepare prawn
recipe, then you need to know a few things about this seafood. There are number of ingredients that
go very well with prawn. In fact, if you are fond of experimenting, then this is a meat with which you
can- right from green leafy vegetables to rich coconut curries, prawn dishes are delicious. However,
the prawn itself is very difficult to prepare. The preparatory stage begins with washing the prawns. It
is important that you use lukewarm water to wash it.
If you are buying it from a departmental store, then make sure that you de-spine it. What actually
looks like the spine of the prawn is actually not the spine but its intestine and all the waste is stored
there. This appears as a black line, which looks like a spine, and hence, it is said that a prawn needs to
be de-spined before it can be cooked. Then comes the hard part of cooking it- all prawns need to be
boiled first- in simple plain water. But you can neither boil it too much, nor boil it less. You will have
to get the temperature and the duration right, or your prawn will be ruined for sure. Thus, if you are
wondering how to make prawn recipe step by step, then these are very important points that you
cannot do without. And if you are allergic to prawns, and you are desperately craving for a bite, then
make sure it is despined and do not have the head. Have the body since that is not known to contain
any allergic elements.
Know the difference between prawn, shrimp and lobster
Though these insects all belong to the same variety, they are different to taste, and of course, prepared
very differently. Shrimps are much like prawns, which come mostly without the head and are used in
salads and a few other dishes. Shrimps are small, unlike prawns which can be quite large, like Tiger
prawns with a large and hard shell coating and a large head. This is something that shrimps do not
have. When you consult quick and easy prawn recipes, read very carefully as to which variety of
prawn they want and whether they want prawn, shrimp, or lobster. While prawns and shrimps are
quite easy to confuse, lobsters are visibly different. They are really large and eaten as a whole. It is
very difficult to cook a lobster and to get the flavour of the gravy in it which is why many great chefs
too steer clear of this dish.
The health benefits of having prawn
Well, if you are not allergic to it, there is a definite nutritional value of prawn recipe. They are very
high in protein and low in calories, which make them a far better alternative than chicken if you want
to eat healthy! So, if you are looking for a healthy and low fat meat, then prawns are better.
