Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 2 large potatoes
  2. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  3. 1 tbsp oil
  4. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  5. 1 tsp urad dal
  6. 2 strands of curry leaves
  7. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  9. 1/2 tsp pepper powder
  10. Salt to taste
  11. A pinch asafoetida

Instructions

  1. Cook the potatoes in a pressure cooker in lots of water for three whistles. Turn it off, allow the pressure to release by itself.
  2. Open the cooker, drain the potatoes. Peel and slice in to medium sized pieces. Set aside.
  3. In a kadai, heat the oil. Splutter mustard and cumin seeds. Add the urad dal and fry for a minute. Add the curry leaves and fry for another minute.
  4. Now add the masala powders and stir well. Add the potatoes and give it a good mix. Leave it on a low flame for about 5-6 minutes. Add the salt and mix well again.
  5. Serve warm as a side dish with rice and curry.
