ABOUT Masala Masoor RECIPE

Recipe courtesy Tarla Dalal. A fabulous dish made with whole red lentils. It is a protein and iron packed recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup whole Masoor dal
  2. 7-8 tiny whole onions
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 1/2 Tsp Haldi / turmeric
  5. 2 Onions,sliced
  6. 3 Tomatoes, chopped
  7. 1 Tbsp Oil
  8. 1/2 Tsp garam masala
  9. 4-5 cloves of garlic (grind to paste)
  10. 1 tomato
  11. 4-5 whole dry red chillies
  12. 1" piece ginger
  13. 1 tsp cumin
  14. 2 tsp coriander seeds

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the Masoor for 2-3 hours.
  2. Mean while add a little water and grind garlic to a paste.
  3. Pressure cook dal with turmeric, salt, baby onions and water for 2 whistles.
  4. Heat oil in a pan add the sliced onions and fry till translucent .
  5. Now add garlic paste, tomatoes, salt and cook till a little mushy.
  6. Add this whole masala to the boiled masoor and cook for 10 mins.
  7. Add the garam masala powder. Serve hot with rice/ roti.
