Chickpea Coconut Curry

Ingredients to make Chickpea Coconut Curry

  • oil 2 tablespoons
  • mustard seeds 1 teaspoon
  • urad dal 1 teaspoon
  • cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  • curry leaves 1 string
  • onion 1/2 cup chopped
  • tomato 1/2 cup chopped
  • garlic 6 cloves
  • tamarind pulp 2 tablespoons
  • water 1 cup
  • Boiled chicpeas 1 cup
  • turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon
  • Red chili powder 2 teaspoons
  • coriander powder 2 teaspoons
  • Shredded coconut 2 tablespoons
  • poppy seeds 2 teaspoons
  • salt 1 tablespoon

How to make Chickpea Coconut Curry

  1. Boil the Chickpeas.
  2. Take a wide pan, add oil, mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and curry leaves
  3. Next add the garlic cloves, onion and tomato and saute it for 2 minutes
  4. Now add the spice powder one by one, turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder
  5. Mix the tamarind pulp with water and add it to the curry and cook till the raw flavor is gone
  6. Now add the boiled chickpeas and required salt
  7. Allow the curry to cook it for 5 minutes
  8. In a mixer, blend the coconut and poppy seeds with little water and make a paste
  9. Add the paste to the curry and let it cook 2 minutes
  10. Now the chickpea tamarind and coconut base curry is ready to be served. You can serve this curry with white rice, naan, roti, etc.,

My Tip:

Boil the chickpeas with salt to enhance the flavor.
