ABOUT Dal Idlis using Urad dal and Moong dal RECIPE

This soft spongy delicious idli recipe is inspired from my friend. It is an innovative way of making idlis and comes in handy when you can't/don't want to include rice in idli preparation.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Yellow moong dal 1 cup
  2. Whole white urad dal 1 cup
  3. Fenugreek seeds few
  4. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Wash, clean, soak moong dal, urad dal [with fenugreek seeds] separately for 4-5 hours
  2. Drain the dals, transfer them to mixer jar and grind them separately to fine paste
  3. Combine the urad moong dal paste and add salt
  4. Keep the mixture aside to ferment for 10 - 12 hours or till the batter rises
  5. Next day, grease the idli mold
  6. Steam like regular idlis for 10-15 minutes in steamer/ pressure cooker without whistle
  7. You may also steam the batter in dhokla plate and eat it as Sandhan/Sannan
  8. Allow it to cool, unmold them and serve with sambhar or chutney or any other choice of accompaniment.
