Paruppu Usili

Ingredients to make Paruppu Usili

  • 1 cup - Toor dal
  • 1 cup - Chana dal
  • 2 - green chillies
  • 2 - Dried red chillies
  • 3 cups - Green beans
  • salt to taste
  • 5-6 spoons - oil
  • Slice of ginger
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves

How to make Paruppu Usili

  1. Soak both Chana and toor dal together for 2 hours. Add the chillies and ginger. Grind coarsely in a blender.
  2. Cook without whistle in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes till dal becomes dry. Turn off the gas and break the dried dal with a fork.
  3. Heat a pan, add water and cook the beans till they become soft.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and add 2 additional red chillies. Add the dal and sauté along with the beans.
  5. Add salt to taste and dish is ready to serve. Garnish with curry leaves.

My Tip:

This dish is divine with plain rice or plain kadhi rice.
