Ingredients to make Shakshouka

  • oil - 1 tbsp
  • 1/2 cup - medium size onion diced finely
  • 2-3 - cloves of garlic
  • 1 - medium sized red capsicum, diced finely
  • 3 - ripe red tomatoes, diced finely
  • 2 tbsp - tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp - cumin powder
  • 1 tsp - red chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 - eggs

How to make Shakshouka

  1. In a large pan, heat oil and saute onions, garlic, capsicum and cook for 5-7 mins till they soften.
  2. Now add diced tomatoes and tomato ketchup. Cook for another 5 mins. Add all the spices and seasonings.
  3. Crack the eggs into the pan, one at a time over the mixture.
  4. Cover the pan and allow it to cook for another 5-6 minutes.
  5. Make sure the sauce does not burn and reduce in quantity.
  6. Garnish with coriander and serve it directly from the pan
