ABOUT Kollu Idli Podi / Horse Gram Idli Chilli Powder RECIPE

This recipe is a traditional idli podi recipe with kollu (horse gram) added to it. It is very easy to make and can be used for idli, dosa and even for rice. It also helps in weight reduction.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Chana dal : 1/4 cup
  2. Urad dal : 1/4 cup
  3. Kollu / horse gram : 1 cup
  4. Dried red chillies : 10 ( or according to your preference)
  5. Curry leaves : 12-15
  6. Salt : as needed
  7. Cumin seeds : 1 - 2 tsp
  8. Oil : 1 teaspoon ( gingelly oil is preferred)

Instructions

  1. Add a teaspoon of oil to a kadai / pan and roast the kollu / horsegram till it starts to burst and the colour slightly changes. Remove from pan.
  2. Now roast the chana dal and urad dal in the same pan till the colour changes to golden, remove these from the pan.
  3. Now roast curry leaves, dried red chilies, and cumin seeds in the same pan.
  4. Let all the roasted spices cool for some time then grind them together in a food processor for a couple of minutes, add salt as per your need.
  5. Grind till you get a coarse powder. ( some prefer finely ground smooth powder, it's totally up to you) Store it in an airtight container.
