ABOUT Traditional Sindhi Bhatia Kadhi RECIPE

Kadhi is served at lunch time with rice topped with blended moons dal or Tuvalu dal. The taste of the kadhi is delicate combination of spicy, tangy and sweet.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. A pinch of asofoetida
  2. 8 - Cluster beans
  3. 30 gm - Yam
  4. 3 tbsp - White gram / chickpeas soaked overnight
  5. 2 tbsp - Green gram
  6. 4 sprigs - Curry leaves
  7. 3 - Dried Red Chilies
  8. 6 - Green chilies, chopped into pieces
  9. 1 tsp - Fenugreek
  10. 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  11. 1 tbsp - Oil
  12. 5 - Lady finger, chopped into pieces
  13. 1 - Potato, chopped into big pieces
  14. 1 - Banana, chopped into pieces
  15. 1 - Drumstick chopped into pieces
  16. 8 - Kokam flowers
  17. 4 tsp - Gram flour
  18. Water for gram flour batter
  19. 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  20. Salt to taste
  21. 10 gm - Jaggery
  22. 2 1/2 Litre - Water

Instructions

  1. Soak the green gram and white gram overnight separately.
  2. When the mixture starts boiling reduce to a medium flame. Deep.and cook for approximately 30 minutes.
  3. In a bowl take the gram flour and add enough water to make a thin batter. Add this batter to the kadhi mixture.This acts as a thickening agent.
  4. Add chopped potatoes, drumsticks, salt and turmeric powder. Cook for another twenty minutes or till the potatoes are almost cooked.
  5. Add lady finger and jaggery (optional:chopped pieces of banana and banana peel can also be added at this stage. Let the curry cook for another fifteen minutes or till all the vegetables in the kadhi are tender.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with chopped coriander leaves.
