ABOUT Moong Dal Dokla RECIPE

An authentic dish from Gujrat. Delicious, light and healthy.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. One Cup - Yellow moong dal, washed and soaked for an hour
  2. 4- Green chilies
  3. Hing - 1/2 tsp
  4. Sugar - 1 tsp
  5. Salt to taste
  6. ENO fruit salt - 1 Packet
  7. Oil - 2 tsp
  8. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  9. Grated coconut, sesame seeds, sev are all optional.
  10. Besan flour - 1 tbsp
  11. Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp (optional)
  12. Curd - 2 tbsp
  13. Water- About 1/2 Cup
  14. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  15. Finely chopped coriander leaves - 1 tbs

Instructions

  1. Grind the moongdal to a nice batter by adding little water and remove into a deep big bowl.
  2. To this bowl add ginger garlic paste, two green chili paste , turmeric powder, salt to taste, sugar, curd, besan flour and mix adding very little water. Bring it to idli batter consistency.
  3. Heat the idli cooker / dhokla steaming pot with two cups of water in it. Allow to boil.
  4. Meanwhile grease a deep plate with little oil.
  5. Add a packet of ENO to the batter and beat it with a big spoon.
  6. Immediately pour the batter into the plate, tap it on the counter and keep for steam cooking.
  7. Steam cook for 12-14 mins. Check by inserting a knife into the dhokla. If it comes out clean, then it's done.
  8. Remove this on to a serving plate.
  9. Heat a small pan with oil and do the seasoning with mustard seeds, hing and finely cut chilies. Add two tbsp of water to the seasoning.
  10. Pour this on the dhokla. Garnish with finely cut coriander leaves. Rest for few mins. Cut into desired shape and serve with mint and coriander chutney.
  11. You can also garnish it with roasted Sesame seeds, sev and fresh grated coconut to make it more attractive...
