Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Flattened Rice - 3/4 Cup
  2. Green gram - 1/4 Cup
  3. Onion (small size) - 1
  4. Green chillies - 1 or 2
  5. Potato (small size ) - 1
  6. Carrot (small size) - 1
  7. Tomato (small size) - 1
  8. Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  9. Black pepper powder - 1 pinch
  10. Curry leaves- 1 tablespoon
  11. Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  12. Water - as required to rinse the flattened rice
  13. Salt - to taste
  14. Ghee/clarified butter - 3 table spoons
  15. Turmeric powder - 2 pinches

Instructions

  1. Soak green gram in a bowl for 20 minutes.
  2. In the meanwhile, heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, sliced onion. Once the onion slices turn light brown in color add the finely chopped vegetables, curry leaves, asafoetida, salt and turmeric powder.
  3. Sprinkle little amount of water. Cover it with a lid to allow the vegetables to cook.
  4. Once the vegetables turn soft , transfer the soaked green gram to the above tempering mix.
  5. Allow it to boil for 2 minutes or until they turn tender. In the meantime, rinse the flattened rice in sufficient amount of water in a colander or a strainer until it gets softened.
  6. Now add this rinsed flattened rice to the above cooking mixture. Mix it well in all the directions Then sprinkle black pepper powder. Saute it well. Finally , drizzle ghee over it and cover with a lid.
  7. Before serving garnish with coriander leaves. Transfer it into a serving plate. Serve hot.
