ABOUT Bombay Karachi Halwa RECIPE

My grandma's easy recipe of a delicious karachi halwa.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Corn flour - 1 Cup (100 gram)
  2. Sugar - 2 Cup (450 gram)
  3. Yellow food color - 1/4 spoon
  4. Desi ghee - ½ Cup (125 gram)
  5. Cashew nuts - ½ Cup (cut into small pieces)
  6. Melon seeds - 3 tbsp
  7. Pistachios - 1 tbsp (thinly sliced)
  8. Tatri (tartaric acid) - ¼ tsp powder (equal to the size of 2 peas)
  9. Green cardamoms - 4-5 (peel and make powder)

Instructions

  1. For making halwa use 2 cup .i.e. 400 grams water. Firstly add little water at a time in corn flour and mix until all lumps get dissolved.
  2. Mix at least 1- ½ cup water in the mixture.
  3. Take sugar in a pan and add ¾ cup water in sugar. cook syrup until sugar gets melted properly
  4. Mix corn flour mixture in sugar syrup and on low flame cook halwa by stirring constantly.
  5. It takes 10-12 minutes for halwa to start becoming thick.
  6. Cook on low flame only. It starts becoming transparent, now add ghee in halwa and cook until it mixes well.
  7. Add rest of the ghee as well and stir until all ghee is absorbed in halwa.
  8. Halwa has become glittery, add yellow color into it and cook until it mixes completely.
  9. Add melon seeds, cashew nuts and cardamom powder and cook nicely.
  10. Cook for 5-7 minutes more or until it gets thick consistency.
  11. Karachi halwa is ready. Take out halwa in any plate and keep it for freezing.
  12. Sprinkle thinly sliced pistachios and press them with spoon.
  13. Cut into any size or shape as per your desire after it gets freeze.
