This is my mother's recipe, this is also called taja vadi ki kadhi in western U.P

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Moong daal 1 cup
  2. Curd 1 cup
  3. 2 green chillies
  4. 1 inch ginger
  5. 2-3 dry red chillies
  6. curry leaves 5-6
  7. Oil for frying
  8. Salt 1 tea spoon
  9. asfoetida 1/4 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  11. Jeera 1/2 tsp
  12. Mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  13. Red chilly powder 1 tsp
  14. Water

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak daal for 3-4 hours
  2. Grind daal along with ginger and green chillies, adding 2-3 tsp of water if needed.
  3. Add half the amount of asfoetida (hing) salt and red chilly powder
  4. Heat ample amount of oil for frying.
  5. make the pakodis using the dal batter, on a medium flame.
  6. Soak the fried pakodis in water.
  7. Now heat about 2 tsp of oil in a pan.
  8. Add rest of the asfoetida followed by jeera, mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chillies, turmeric powder and red chilly powder.
  9. Put 2 cups of water and required amount of salt.
  10. Add fried and soaked pakodis
  11. Add 2 tsp of daal batter into the curd and give it a mix.
  12. Put this mixture into the cooking gravy and bring upto boil.
  13. Serve hot with chapatis or rice .
