ABOUT Dosakaya Bharta RECIPE

Its a Yellow Cucumber Bharta relish it with Paranthas. Generally cucumbers are meant to be eaten raw but this recipe brings out a unique flavour in the form of bharta.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 kg Dosakaya (Yellow cucumber)
  2. 4 medium sized tomatoes
  3. 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
  4. 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  5. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  6. 1/4tsp fenugreek seeds
  7. 1/4 tsp urad+chana dal
  8. 1 tbsp Coriander leaves [chopped]
  9. 2 dry red chillies
  10. 5-6 Curry Leaves
  11. Oil for saute
  12. 1tsp turmeric powder
  13. pepper powder 1 tsp
  14. salt
  15. green chillies [slit] 3

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds and saute for few seconds.
  2. Add curry leaves & let them splutter.
  3. Add green chillies and saute them.
  4. Add the dry red chillies and let them get roasted as well.
  5. Let the mixture cool down and then blend it in a mixer grinder.
  6. add turmeric powder ,tamarind pulp and salt to taste
  7. Heat some more oil in another pan and add chopped dosakaya ,tomatoes in in it and cook for 5 minutes on medium flame .
  8. let them cool down.
  9. Blend them for few seconds.
  10. Add the blended spice mixture into dosakaya- tomato mixture and blend again.
  11. Now saute this blended mix ,using very less oil till you get a beautiful colour. Simmer and cook for 5 more minutes.
  12. Serve with parathas or rotis.
