Moong dal halwa is often prepared during Holi, Diwali and weddings as well. It takes lots of patience to sauté the dal and prepare this dessert, it will probably require a little extra ghee too!
Volume Conversions: Normally used for liquids only Customary quantity Metric equivalent 1 teaspoon 5 mL 1 tablespoon or 1/2 fluid ounce 15 mL 1 fluid ounce or 1/8 cup 30 mL 1/4 cup or 2 fluid ounces 60 mL 1/3 cup 80 mL 1/2 cup or 4 fluid ounces 120 mL 2/3 cup 160 mL 3/4 cup or 6 fluid ounces 180 mL 1 cup or 8 fluid ounces or half a pint 240 mL and in same cup u can take daal . Don't worry about grams
1cup milk is equal to how much ml milk.
Soak the yellow moong dal in enough water for 3 hours. Drain well and blend in a mixer to a coarse paste without using any water. Keep aside.
Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick kadhai, add the yellow moong dal paste and cook on a medium flame for 25 minutes, while stirring continuously.
Add the milk and 1 cup of warm water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 7 to 8 minutes, while stirring continuously.
Add the sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.
Next add in cardamom powder, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.
Serve warm garnished with almond slivers or store in an air-tight container and refrigerate it.
