ABOUT Moong dal halwa RECIPE

Moong dal halwa is often prepared during Holi, Diwali and weddings as well. It takes lots of patience to sauté the dal and prepare this dessert, it will probably require a little extra ghee too!

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup moong dal ( yellow dal)
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. 1/2 cup ghee
  4. 1 and 1/4 cup sugar
  5. 1/2 tbsp cardamom (elaichi) powder
  6. 2 tbsp almonds (badam) sliver ones

Instructions

  1. Soak the yellow moong dal in enough water for 3 hours. Drain well and blend in a mixer to a coarse paste without using any water. Keep aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a deep non-stick kadhai, add the yellow moong dal paste and cook on a medium flame for 25 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  3. Add the milk and 1 cup of warm water, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 7 to 8 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  4. Add the sugar, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 3 minutes, while stirring continuously.
  5. Next add in cardamom powder, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, while stirring continuously.
  6. Serve warm garnished with almond slivers or store in an air-tight container and refrigerate it.
