ABOUT Mutton curry RECIPE

A highly flavouful mutton curry that is cooked to perfection and finger licking yummy.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500 grams mutton
  2. 2 large sized onions grinded in a paste
  3. 1 large sized tomato pureed
  4. 8-10 garlic cloves finely chopped
  5. 3 bay leaves
  6. 7-8 dried red chillis
  7. 1 inch cinammon stick
  8. 1 star anise
  9. 6 cloves
  10. 2 black cardamom
  11. 2 tbsp coriander powder
  12. 3 tsp cumin powder
  13. 4 tbsp mustard oil
  14. 1 tbsp ghee/butter
  15. Salt to taste


  1. Grind all the ingredients, onions,coriander seeds, red chilies, garlic, cumin seeds, cinammon stick, black cardamom, star anise, and form a paste.
  2. Heat the oil in a large pan. Add in bay leaf and stir fry till it becomes brown in colour.
  3. Next put in the mutton pieces and mix it well. Cook the meat till the water oozed out dries up. Then lower the flame and roast the meat for 15-20 minutes while stirring in between.
  4. After this time, put in the masala paste and cook till the oil separates from the meat mixture.
  5. Add in salt as per taste and stir well. Pour in 3-4 cups of hot water to form the gravy. Cover the meat and let it cook completely, make sure to check in between.
  6. Heat the ghee/butter in a pan, put in some cumin seeds and temper it. Pour this into the mutton gravy and cover the lid.
  7. Let it cook for another 15-20 minutes while stirring in between this time.
  8. Serve warm with hot rotis or rice as per taste.
