ABOUT Dal Khichadi RECIPE

Healthy rice dish made from rice and lentil with lots of veggies .

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Split pigeon peas (Toor dal/lentil) 1 small cup
  2. rice 1 small cup
  3. carrot cut into small cubes 1/2 cup
  4. Baby corn 5-6 cut into small pieces
  5. onion 1 cut into pieces
  6. tomato 1 chopped
  7. peas/frozen peas 1/2 cup
  8. corn kernels 1/2 cup
  9. oil 4-5 tablespoons
  10. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  11. cumin powder 1/2 teaspoon
  12. ginger garlic paste 1 tablespoon
  13. turmeric powder 1/2 teaspoon
  14. chilly powder 1/2 teaspoon
  15. Garam masala powder 1 teaspoon
  16. Asafoetida(hing) 2 pinches
  17. salt to taste
  18. sugar 1 teaspoon (optional )
  19. coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash dal and rice well and soak in sufficient water for 20 minutes
  2. Drain water completely
  3. Add soaked dal and rice along with 5 cups of water, asafoetida, turmeric powder and salt to pressure cooker.
  4. cook till one whistle .
  5. Meanwhile cut all veggies
  6. In a wok heat oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds.
  7. add ginger garlic paste and all veggies
  8. Cook for 2-3 minutes then add pinch of turmeric powder , red chilly powder , coriander powder , garam masala salt(just for quantity of veggis as we have already added salt while cooking dal-raice.
  9. Add sugar if you like.
  10. Add cooked dal-rice and stir well.
  11. Cook for another 4-5 minutes on low heat.
  12. It is ready to serve. Garnish with coriander leaves and while serving add 1 tablespoon of clarified butter/ghee
